These voters didn\u2019t hold back as they shared their top financial concerns and reacted to President Donald Trump\u2019s latest tariff moves.<\/p>\n<p>The voters who take part in these monthly focus groups live in one of seven key battleground states. They voted for Joe Biden in 2020 and for Trump in 2024. The Swing Voter Project is a collaboration between Sago, Engagious and Axios.<\/p>\n<p>https:\/\/youtu.be\/-LCa132gBGU[\/vc_column_text][\/vc_column][\/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text css=\u00bb\u00bb css_params=\u00bb\u00bb el_id=\u00bbanchor1&#8243;]<\/p>\n<h3>Why Pennsylvania Swing Voters Still Support Trump<\/h3>\n<p>The Pennsylvania swing voters have some questions and concerns about Trump\u2019s second administration. Still, nine of the 13 still approve of the president\u2019s policies so far. Here\u2019s some of what they had to say:<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI think we needed a change and we weren\u2019t heading in a very good direction before.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHe\u2019s doing what he said he was going to do.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe\u2019re overspending and that was one of his promises, and it\u2019s nice to see it actually implemented and some of his ways of doing it are kind of shocking, but it always hurts to be put on a budget.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019ve seen him and I approve, because I do believe the fact that he\u2019s working with other countries and that he is really trying to make America great again.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI approve, because I do believe that there are decades worth of stuff, I will call it, that needed to be corrected. He was the right man for the job \u2014 a little more polish, a little less used car salesman, would be nice.\u201d[\/vc_column_text][vc_column_text css=\u00bb\u00bb css_params=\u00bb\u00bb el_id=\u00bbanchor2&#8243;]<\/p>\n<h3>Reasons Some Pennsylvania Voters Don\u2019t Approve of Trump<\/h3>\n<p>Four of the 13 Pennsylvania swing voters were less supportive of Trump and his actions during the first few months of his second term. Here are a few of their comments:<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI feel as though the plan hasn\u2019t been assessed enough. So I feel like it\u2019s being more reactive instead of being proactive.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI agree with America first, and that is one of the reasons that I voted for him. I don\u2019t believe it\u2019s happening now.\u201d[\/vc_column_text][\/vc_column][\/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text css=\u00bb\u00bb el_class=\u00bbgreenpostquote\u00bb css_params=\u00bb\u00bb]<span class=\"TextRun SCXW148931157 BCX8\" lang=\"EN-US\" xml:lang=\"EN-US\" data-contrast=\"none\"><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW148931157 BCX8\">\u201cHe always says he\u2019s thinking about citizens, but all of these layoffs are affecting American people.\u201d<\/span><\/span>[\/vc_column_text][\/vc_column][\/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text css=\u00bb\u00bb css_params=\u00bb\u00bb el_id=\u00bbanchor3&#8243;]<\/p>\n<h3>Concerns About the US Economy<\/h3>\n<p>Eight of the 13 focus group participants admitted to feeling more anxious about the US economy in April 2025 than when Trump took office in January. Their comments included:<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhen he first came into office, I had high hopes that he would restore the economy to what it was before. But now with these trade wars, all these news agencies are saying that prices are going to go up on so many goods. I\u2019m just concerned that prices are going to be going up again.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI think the anxiety for me is just not being able to pinpoint anything and not understanding the plan because it\u2019s just too many moving parts.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWell, it\u2019s the uncertainty of the future. I mean, there is a lot going on right now.\u201d[\/vc_column_text][vc_row_inner][vc_column_inner width=\u00bb2\/3&#8243;][vc_column_text css=\u00bb\u00bb css_params=\u00bb\u00bb]\u201cThe tariffs and the concern that we\u2019re going to start to see an increase in prices almost across the board and probably within the next 30 to 60 days.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMy budget, my household budget is not going as going as far as it used to, and everything has gone up, especially utilities. It\u2019s making hard to make ends meet.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSpecifically, things like the stock market. I expected that to be flourishing when he came in office. I did not have the expectations that it would pan out the way it has.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI don\u2019t see the end game in this tariff game. Here\u2019s what they had to say about why they\u2019re in favor of the tariffs:<\/p>\n<p>\u201cTo bring jobs back here that, in the last 25 years, have been going to China, going to Mexico, going to Canada, going to India.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s too easy for us to go and buy something that\u2019s $2 from China when it\u2019s $5 made in the USA. So the tariffs, at least, even the playing field for local vendors and local people to do it.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI do think that, ultimately, free trade is the best way to go. It\u2019s clear, without some sort of incentive, that\u2019s drifted away in other countries. This was something to <\/span><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW96838907 BCX8\">kind of get<\/span><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW96838907 BCX8\"> everybody\u2019s attention and then sit down and hash it out.\u201d<\/span>[\/vc_column_text][\/vc_column][\/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text css=\u00bb\u00bb css_params=\u00bb\u00bb el_id=\u00bbanchor5&#8243;]<\/p>\n<h3>Views on Trump&#8217;s Tariff Communication<\/h3>\n<p>Only two of the Pennsylvania swing voters said that Trump has done a good job explaining why tariffs are needed. The other voters shared thoughts such as:<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHe\u2019s all about the action of putting tariffs in place, but he hasn\u2019t communicated the outcome. He says, oh, more money\u2019s coming in, we\u2019ll curb fentanyl, we\u2019ll bring manufacturing back. Manufacturing doesn\u2019t happen overnight. It takes years and years to build an infrastructure for manufacturing.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe trade deficit was part of the plan and it wasn\u2019t explained until way after the fact.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHe probably doesn\u2019t think that the American people are smart enough to understand what he is doing.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>As Trump second term continues, the Swing Voter Project will be discussing his actions and other current events with voters.
