Andrew Breitbart: Jedi of the Conservative Movement

Andrew Breitbart: Jedi of the Conservative Movement By: Amy Lutz“If you strike me down, I shall become more powerful than you could possibly imagine.” These words, famously spoken by Obi-Wan Kenobi in Star Wars: A New Hope struck me on the morning of March 1st as I obsessively clicked the refresh button on my computer. I fervently hoped that perpetually restoring my Google Chrome browser would eventually produce a different result. However, this truly was a case of desperate insanity. I finally accepted the horrible news I had discovered plastered all over the internet. Conservative icon Andrew Breitbart passed away on February 29th, 2012 at the age of 43. Part of me still expects him to emerge in a month to proclaim “April Fools, America.” However, perhaps this is nothing but … Read entire article »

South Carolina exposes Mitt’s weaknesses

Several things caught my attention tonight about the GOP nomination race going forward. Here’s my take on what’s happened this week: 1. Mitt has a glass chin. Mitt’s great at throwing punches but he’s worthless when he’s attacked. The “looks presidential” Mitt disappears the minute he’s challenged or criticized. Considering the fact that President Obama, the pro-Obama superPACs and his media allies won’t play by Marquess of Queensberry rules, this puts Mitt at a significant disadvantage. ADVANTAGE: President Obama 2. Newt’s capable of giving as good as he gets. There’s no question but that President Obama, like all narcissists, hates criticism. Similarly, there’s no question but that Newt’s substantive, issue-based criticisms will rattle President Obama. There’s no reason to think that this advantage is limited to the debates. Newt will criticize President Obama … Read entire article »

James Carville gets his “neener neener” moment at the GOP’s pending self-immolation

What really sucks is; he may be right.  With our GOP “betters” going full tilt with Operation FUBAR, the Good Ol’ People who thought they knew better turns out to have known squat. After a decade of things blowing up in their faces, you’d think the GOP would me more careful playing with matches? Matches like McCain v Obama or Romney v Obama, while you’d think they’d be no-brainers with moderates against the hard left, turns out when the hard left pretends to be moderate and calls the moderate “radical” the GOP implodes. Bottom line, and the sad reality, is  Democrats are better at selling a lie than Republicans are at selling the truth. Can we fix this? Newt has the word skills and can think on his feet, but his past is coming back … Read entire article »

Potential Game-Changer: Perry dropping out this am

According to this tweet, CNN is reporting that Rick Perry will drop out today: @PeterHambyCNNPeter Hamby Rick Perry will drop out of the Republican presidential race today, two sources tell CNN. If that happens, most of Perry’s votes will go to Newt Gingrich. The two are good friends away from the campaign trail. Newt even wrote the forward to Gov. Perry’s book. Wow. Bill Jacobson is right in saying that things are moving fast: Updates: Perry just scheduled an 11 a.m. press conference. Via HotAir, Perry will endorse Newt. Things are moving fast: The Daily Caller has learned that 100 tea party leaders from 25 states will announce Thursday that they are supporting Republican presidential candidate Newt Gingrich and will form a coalition called Tea Partiers With Newt. It’ll be interesting to see the media’s reaction to Gov. Perry’s … Read entire article »

Reactions to the Fox News-South Carolina Debate

Last night, the five remaining Republican candidates met for a debate in South Carolina.  It was good to see the candidates play a home game for a change, debating on Fox News.  If it was up to me, of course, Fox would get basically all the debates rather than subjecting ourselves to the gotcha game from the Drive-By Media.  (Then again, we did have Juan Williams playing the gotcha game.)  The format was different also because we’re down to five candidates, as opposed to the nine we had on the stage at one point.  The fewer candidates allowed for longer responses by candidates so we could get a better view of each candidate. One final note:  In the interest of full disclosure, I’d like to remind everyone that, as the editor … Read entire article »

Gingrich Clearly Wins South Carolina Debate

Newt Gingrich clearly dominated the South Carolina GOP debate last night. He received two standing ovations and his statements were often followed by loud, lengthy applause. The former US House Speaker needed to do well after he allowed the negative ads run against him in Iowa to affect him and his campaign, and he did so. Former US House Speaker Newt GingrichImage via Wikipedia Gingrich won the debate by dealing in specifics. Other candidates, President Barack Obama comes to mind, do better when they are allowed to make broad, gilded generalities that have less substance than a cotton candy hologram. Gingrich revels in applying the lessons of the past to the present and it’s one of the reasons most people believe that Gingrich would destroy the sitting President in a debate. Gingrich started … Read entire article »

The SC GOP Primary: Vultures, capitalists, evangelicals and gamecocks

Palmetto State poised for pragmatic pick over preening vulture anti-capitalists South Carolinians have seen too many shuttered textile plants never visited by Mitt Romney’s Bain Capital to fall for Newt-Perry slurs that blame the buyers of companies already failing due to the internal policies of the sellers or external policies of governments. Vultures eat the dead. Bain, under Romney, saved jobs worth saving in the private sector (unlike the now government motors taxpayer -funded welfare “jobs” saved by President Barack Obama at a loss) by salvaging the identifiable living and the profits earned saved and created jobs, sight unseen: The problem with the entire discussion is that jobs are being used as the only measure of the “good” done by Romney. Profits are also good as they allow companies to grow and as they … Read entire article »

A Part-Time Congress Is Not the Answer

- A Well-Regulated and Restrained Federal Government - Texas Governor and Presidential candidate Rick Perry has suggested a part-time Congress as a way to reduce the power of the federal government. Governor Perry is still one of the candidates that I would prefer to both President Obama and to leading GOP candidate Mitt Romney but, in this instance, Governor Perry is wrong. Image via Wikipedia I am certainly in favor of the reduction of federal power, but this is the wrong place to start. I understand that people are disappointed with Congress, but the US Representatives and the US Senators are directly elected by the people. If we citizens do our jobs properly, then we should want them to be full-time agents of the American people. We have certainly made mistakes in whom … Read entire article »

Mirror, Mirror: Michelle Malkin Frets Over Frenemies

After being a one woman army attempting to destroy Rick Perry by repeating worn-out Paulbot grievances, now Malkin frets over the great damage to capitalism caused by attacks an examination of Bain Capital and Mitt Romney’s time there. It’s not like the coupon clippers at Bain represent the heart and soul of capitalism. Perhaps Malkin thinks that Obama would have missed the Romney-Bain connection, but how could he? Mitt and the establishment have loudly trumpeted his job creating efforts at Bain Capital. Is it just me or are those 100,000 jobs Mitt says he created about as unknowable as all the jobs Obama claims to have “saved.” Birds of a feather? Pinocchios to both. I reckon gardasil seems a little less important, now. Cracker jack job, Michelle. The other Michele didn’t … Read entire article »

Gamecock Open Thread: Who is Perry supporters’ Second Choice

This former Rick Perry supporter recently announced his post-vulture Bain capitalist-attacks decision to express my preference that Mitt Romney (in a close call over Rick Santorum, with Jon Huntsman now a distant third for me) win the South Carolina primary as I think it critical to the conservative movement that a win my native state not be attributed to anti-capitalist, class warfare-aiding attacks. I think a win by either Newt Gingrich or Rick Perry would be bad for the movement. I also think that Florida has now edged S.C. as the most important Republican Party contest. My question to current Perry supporters is who they think is the second best choice.   Authored By GameCock gamecock's blog … Read entire article »

Reactions to the New Hampshire Primary

Tuesday night, our nation’s first primary was won, as expected by Mitt Romney (and not Tim Tebow for that one person who actually drunk enough to believe yesterday’s post*).  Not only that, Mittens finally broke the 30% poll with his 36% finish.  My fellow conservatives are starting to sing the song of inevitability.  I’m not buying it…yet.  I may yet be forced to…and if I am forced to I will at least find that moment less difficult than holding my nose and voting for McCain…actually voting for Sarah Palin and her boss.  But I still do not think it’s 100% over yet.  The conventional wisdom is pretty much out the window this time.  Too much has changed.  Ron Paul finished second garnering his predictable 20-25% that he will continue to … Read entire article »

Most People Like to Fire the Same People Romney Does

I find it extremely disappointing that so-called conservatives have jumped on Mitt Romney about a comment he made about firing people. Newt Gingrich, Rick Perry and some others took the comment entirely out of context to score some cheap political points. In their attack from the left they are writing the script for Obama, should Romney win the nomination. I can see Ronald Reagan shake his head and mutter, “Did I teach you nothing?”   If you listen to Romney’s comments in context, they are perfectly reasonable and I know of no reasonable person who would disagree with him. He was talking about a better way of delivering healthcare. Here is what he said. www.youtube.com/watch?v=pSddioKBp9o How many of you are shocked and disgusted with those comments? Who wouldn’t want the ability to fire a … Read entire article »

Before the New Hampshire Primaries

Today is the day of the nation’s first Primary in New Hampshire.  I think everyone, including me, will be surprised if Mitt Romney doesn’t win this thing.  It’s definitely Mittens’ primary to lose.  That being said, it’s very interesting to see how everyone else will break out.  Jon Huntsman, my perpetual humorous whipping boy for being a joke of a candidate, has thrown all his chips into New Hampshire.  He hasn’t polled higher than third and even then it’s a far third.  Ron Paul is going to get pretty much what he’s going to get everywhere, 15-20% or so.  He’s got his supporters and that’s going to be it.  Which brings us to my candidate, Newt Gingrich.  Newt is finally going after Mittens, but I don’t think he’s got enough … Read entire article »

Remember after the Primaries; Obama in his Own Words

And then make him eat those words I know today if you throw your support behind a candidate you may be called sycophantic (unless you support the same candidate as the other guy), but at least you stand behind one of them. Hopefully by the time all this is over we’ll all have the sense to remember why we came to politics to begin with; to get this man out of office and hopefully put this country on the real road to recovery. Also I’d be remiss as a sycophant if I failed to remind you, if your particular choice is Rick Perry, go here.   Authored By Erick Brockway A TowDog … Read entire article »

Reactions to the New Hampshire Debates

In the interest of full disclosure, I would like to remind those who are unaware that, as the editor of Biblical Conservatism I have publically and officially endorsed Newt Gingrich for President in 2012.  Please remember that all included is my personal opinion and, unlike the Drive-By Media, I do not lie to my consumers and claim that I am somehow clean and unbiased.  I am openly and proudly a conservative and I don’t deny my bias. Saturday night and Sunday morning, the Republican candidates met for two debates leading up to New Hampshire’s Primary on Tuesday.  There is one fewer candidate than last time we did a round of debate analysis, and I suspect after New Hampshire there will be less again. Rick Perry, a second look – Still time for a surge

I watched these candidates since they announced. I leaned toward Herman Cain early, then Perry when he announced. With nothing really against him that mattered to me but bad debate performances early on, I still leaned his direction. I’m firmly in his camp now. It may be a repeat of Fred! in the ’08 season, but I think Perry has what it takes to take this all the way. Rush: “I Wouldn’t Have One Ounce of Doubt About Rick Perry…”

“…I Been Hoping Rick Perry Would Catch Fire” About time Rush came out and said it; Yeah, considering the other options, I am now officially in the tank for Rick Perry. Note; Due to there being some confusion over the above sentence, I’ll clarify; that’s ME saying that, not Rush (yet – though one can hope, right?). UPDATE From El Rushbo’s site [my emphasis]; This is why I say, “Let’s get the best conservative we can.” Since we already have so much anti-Obama sentiment, why settle? Why not go for the whole ball of wax? (interruption) No, I am not kidding. It’s time. I tell you, it’s time to strip this bare. I have just alluded to this. I’m gonna tell you again. To Rick Perry; Go From the Subliminal to the Sublime From Here on Out

Last night Rick Perry came in 5th in the Iowa caucus with a mere 10% of the vote, while fellow conservative Rick Santorum surged to get 26%. While conservatives, combined overwhelmingly defeated the moderates, (Romney and Huntsman) 41-26, and even if you throw in all of Newt’s votes (as an arguably GOP establishment insider if not entirely moderate) they still won 41-39. (6% Paulbots and 14% unnamed Democrats-turned-Republican-for-a-day filled out the field.) On the one hand, this make me happy as the line has finally been drawn by voters between the battle between conservatism and squishitism. It’s ours to lose. But I’m certain it does not please Rick Perry one iota, as he spent an awful lot of money in Iowa and failed to meet minimum expectations. Accordingly, he announced he was … Read entire article »

The Iowans Have Spoken

The Iowa Caucuses have allowed the people of the small farm state the unusual opportunity to flex their political muscles. Beyond the timing of the event, there is no reason to pay this much attention a gaggle of hopefuls crisscrossing the state in an exercise of retail politics. There is nothing earth shattering about the number of delegates awarded, yet the press, both formerly mainstream and legitimate, make this one state of good people a bell weather for the entire nation. Talking heads, ever looking to reasons to make their learned pronouncements, want to expand on the preferences of a little over a hundred thousand Iowa Hawkeyes, into a national referendum. There is a complete lack of perspective by inflating the importance of this state in the heartland America. However, if … Read entire article »

Rick Perry, the Jobs Governor, Closes it Out in Perry Iowa

Texas Governor Rick Perry closed out his Iowa bus tour Monday evening at the historic Pattee hotel in Perry Iowa, 35 miles northwest of Des Moines. Accompanied by family and prominent political supporters including Governors Jindal of Louisiana and Brownback from Kansas, Perry laid out a strong message for a smaller federal government and economic rebirth. Governor Perry told the crowd that there was no way that the country could spend its way to prosperity and implored President Obama to stop the crazy spending and money printing. Perry asked his audience, “Are you better off now than you were 4 trillion dollars ago?” Watch the crowd respond in the video below: The enthusiastic overflow crowd of 300 people applauded Governor Perry vigorously. A gaggle of press including reporters from Switzerland and Italy circulated … Read entire article »

Judging the GOP Candidates (and Predicting a Ron Paul Victory in Iowa)

Even though I did a pretty good job guessing at the outcome of the 2010 elections, I’m a policy wonk, not a political hack, so take these predictions with a bucket of salt. Especially since I’m predicting Ron Paul will win even though the intrade.com betting shows a Romney victory, and I cited those betting markets in 2010 when predicting that Scott Brown would win the special election for Ted Kennedy’s seat by a 51-48 margin (actual results: 51.8-47.1). So here’s my prediction, along with a few thoughts on each candidate. Paul (23 percent) Ron Paul’s gotten a lot of flak for having some unsavory supporters, and that will probably hurt him, but he benefits from being an anti-politician. And he appeals to all the Republicans who want less government. Simply stated, what you … Read entire article »

Iowa: Perry Supporters Pour in and Pour it On

I got to West Des Moines late on the 28th. When I walked into Perry HQ the next morning I was welcomed with enthusiasm and told the morning training would start shortly but first, if I liked, I could participate in the morning prayer service. That’s the way they start their mornings at Perry HQ. What a wonderful way to kick off a hard day’s work. One thing that struck me was the youth of the Perry staffers running things in Des Moines. They are dedicated people on a mission for country and Governor Perry. They know he is the right man at the right time to return this country to constitutional governance and economic prosperity. Those two things go together and Rick Perry understands that. He is America’s Jobs Governor … Read entire article »

Endorsing: None Of The Above

I can’t take it anymore. I am endorsing nobody at this point. Everyone is either clinically insane or an incompetent presidential candidate. I’m going to list them in order of likelyness of me whole-heartly supporting in the general, to the one I will refuse to vote for in the general (and you already know who that person is). Let me tell you why I can’t support any of them right now: Rick Santorum – I can actually see myself canvassing for him in the general election. I would support him except that he’s been up and down Iowa and is still not polling there. This leaves me to believe that no one wants yet another US Senator as President. Newt Gingrich – Gingrich has completely disappointed me since switching to his side. This … Read entire article »
