The Council Has Spoken!! This Week’s Watcher’s Council Results
The Council has spoken, the votes have been cast, and the results are in for this week’s Watcher’s Council match up. As the EU continues to implode economically, many people see a corresponding rise in nationalism..in some cases, extreme nationalism with all that entails. This week’s winner, The Noisy Room with The Fascist Boogie Fever sees what’s currently going on in Greece with the Golden Dawn movement as symptomatic of this trend and carried off this week’s honors with a very well written piece. Here’s a slice: All hail, or should we say ‘heil,’ the rise of the Golden Dawn fascists in Greece. It’s all the rage (literally) in the streets of Greece these days. They now hold 21 seats in the Greek government – about 7% of the controlling … Read entire article »

Groping For Answers
Secretary of State Henry A. Kissinger uses the telephone in Deputy National Security Advisor Brent Scowcroft's office to get the latest information on the situation in South Vietnam (Photo credit: Wikipedia) TSA says Dr. Kissinger’s colon is polyp free! Waay back in the late 1950s, when my elementary school teachers were attempting to expand my known universe to places beyond my circle of family and friends, one of the first things I remember learning was that some Americans thought the government was putting fluoride in our water to turn us into Communists. I’m not certain why that thought stuck with me, and I never did understand how exactly fluoride accomplished that sociological metamorphosis, but some of my teachers believed it, so I did as well. Fast forward 50 years, and I am quite … Read entire article »

Uh Oh! Leaked Trayvon Martin Autopsy Backs Up Zimmerman’s Self -Defense Story
A leaked autopsy report on Trayvon Martin entered into evidence for the upcoming trial shows that Martin had injuries on his hands and knuckles that would vindicate neighborhood watch volunteer George Zimmerman’s account that Martin was sitting on top of him and pummeling him. Zimmerman sustained multiple injuries in the altercation according to th emedical report done at the time of the incident, including a pair of black eyes, a fractured nose and two cuts to the back of his head Even worse for the prosecution, the autopsy shows that the fatal shot that killed Martin was fired from between one and eighteen inches away – and at an upward angle, which also vindicates Zimmerman’s account of what happened. So do various witness statements. Had this gone to the Grand Jury instead of just … Read entire article »

Elizabeth Warren Doubles Down On ‘Native American’ Heritage As Real Native Americans Voice Outrage
Apparently nobody ever gave Princess Passes Bull the benefit of some age old lore: when you’re in a hole, stop digging. Now that even the documentation supposedly showing her as 1/32 Cherokee has been debunked, even by the partisan Boston Globe, the latest evidence of how Dances-With-Socialism tried to pimp her faux Indian roots surfaced in supposed ‘traditional’ recipes she contributed to the ‘Pow Wow ‘ cookbook back around 1984. Guess what? The cookbook, entitled Powwow Chow not only was edited by Warren’s non-Native American cousin Candy Rowsey as a compilation of “special recipes passed down through the Five Tribes families,” according to the introduction, but Princess Speaks With Forked Tongue is listed in the book as ‘Elizabeth Warren, Cherokee’ in a number of … Read entire article »

Dan Mitchell’s Field Trip to the United Nations
I’m at the United Nations in New York City for something called “The High Level Thematic Debate on the State of the World Economy.” Most speakers so far, including the Secretary General of the United Nations, the President of the European Commission, Paul Volcker, and Professor Joseph Stiglitz, have to varying degrees blamed private markets and called for more government. I speak later today as part of a roundtable on the economic crisis (see full schedule here), and I will be offering a different point of view. The other thing I’ve noticed is the over-use of certain terms. Reminded me of the state-of-the-union bingo game about Obama’s buzz words. It seems every speaker was required to use all of the following phrases. From a philosophical perspective, I’d rather be sitting next to the Liechtenstein … Read entire article »

MARRIAGE = ?
Marriage has been a big topic this month. Primarily, same-sex marriage. North Carolina passing an amendment that keeps marriage defined between a man and a woman, and president Obama coming out in favor of same-sex marriage. Anyone who disagrees with same-sex marriage is apparently a bigot, and is mentally ill in the old ages. I [...] Authored By According To Jan According To Jan … Read entire article »

Obama-Mitt fundraising match sounds like a referendum to me
Ed’s post about the fundraising reports for Team Obama/DNC and Team Mitt/RNC is fascinating on multiple levels. This is the part that most fascinates me: As I write in my column, it’s not just Obama and his team, but also his allies in the media. The more they talk, the more people they alienate from Obama. And the more that happens, the fewer donations they get, and the more in both voters and contributors that Romney and the RNC can attract. This should be a very interesting summer in the fundraising race. The reason I find this fascinating is because Axelrod and Carney have talked at length about how this would be a choice election. While there’s no doubt that President Obama, Axelrod and Carney want it to be a choice election, … Read entire article »

Gov. Dayton, what about the miners?
Earlier this week, Gov. Dayton joined DFL lawmakers in Duluth to pretend that building a new Vikings stadium was all that was needed for a great Minnesota economy: “Thousands of people are going to be working on that stadium, and on the transit center in Duluth. Those aren’t just words, those are real jobs,” Dayton said, referring to $6 million included in the state bonding construction bill for the $27 million downtown transit hub supporters say will link bus, taxi and train passengers with hikers and bikers. Senate Minority Leader Tom Bakk, DFL-Cook, said Republicans seemed content the past two years with passing little or no legislation to create jobs or move the state forward. “We saved the Republicans from what would have been the largest do-nothing session in state history,” Bakk said, … Read entire article »

Thugs strike again in Wisconsin
If there was any doubt that Wisconsin Democrats were thugs, this video shows who they are: With the recall election closing in fast, Democrats are resorting to arson in venting their frustration. TMJ4 issued this report: Vandals are torching pro-Walker yard signs, and now homeowners and neighbors are worried the crimes could escalate. Someone set fire to at least five Walker campaign signs here in Fox Point. Jamie Schumaker came out of his Fox Point home to get the paper Sunday morning to find his small Governor Walker campaign sign reduced to ashes, a sign he put up just the day before. “You’d like to disagree agreeably and not have to resort to something like this,” said Schumaker to TODAY’S TMJ4. Schumaker said he’s an avid Walker supporter, even a donor, and said this is … Read entire article »

Which Minnesota do the people want?
One of the few things that I’ve ever agreed with Chris Matthews about was his questioning GOP presidential candidates in 2000 what type of America they wanted to live in. It’s a great question which is scalable to state and local levels, too. The DFL’s special interest allies started their barrage of lies against the GOP legislature by accusing the GOP legislature of being a do-nothing legislature. Those attacks took another hit thanks to Mark Sommerhauser’s article: Rep. King Banaian, R-St. Cloud, sponsored a provision included in a broader colleges and universities act, which he says should help students shop for textbooks. The provision requires the price of textbooks and other key information be posted online with a college or university course schedule, and requires that information be available to students longer … Read entire article »

Banning Pacquiao: How the Left Defines Tolerance
The “progressive” Left in this country seem to be devoid of any sense of irony, and I have to admit: it’s good fun to watch sometimes. The latest example of this comes from my new hometown, Los Angeles, CA. It seems that the boxing champ Manny Pacquiao – a public figure who has publicly expressed his support for traditional marriage – and his family have been “banned” from a popular mall in the L.A. area called The Grove. From my friend Ben Shapiro over at Breitbart.com: The owner of The Grove, Rick Caruso, tweeted that iconic boxing great and Philippines Congressman Manny Pacquiao would not be allowed “on the premises” thanks to Pacquiao’s outspoken opposition to same-sex marriage. “Boxer Manny Pacquiao is not welcome @TheGroveLA,” he tweeted. “@TheGroveLA is a gathering place for … Read entire article »

The Giving Tree: Poison Apples
tree stump (Photo credit: Wikipedia) Shel Silverstein, the author of children’s books who was part-beatnik, part-scary uncle, and part-lovable pedagogue, wrote some funny stuff. His poems and stories were often whimsical and warped, sometimes innocent and sometimes sardonic and mocking. But this enigmatic guy is responsible for one of the most loathsome and vile pieces of literature ever written in modern times, The Giving Tree. Let me give you just a little context. The Giving Tree is absolutely loved by the educational community. Teachers swoon when they hear the words “The Giving Tree” uttered, as if some mystical power has transported them into a higher state of warm fuzziness. The book is read to children to illustrate high and noble things like motherhood and friendship. The real, and very dark philosophy at the … Read entire article »

New Poll – Wisconsin A Tossup State
A new poll from Marquette University shows President Obama and Governor Mitt Romney tied 46%-46% among likely voters. President Obama’s 4 point lead in April has vanished, and his favorability ratings in Wisconsin have plummeted from 55% to 49%. Even more indicative of how much the Badger State is in play, Governor Scott Walker has a decisive lead over his Democrat challenger Milwaukee Mayor Tom Barrett, 50-44 percent, among likely voters. This is a five point shift in Walker’s favor in the recall election being held next month. Only 3% say they’re still undecided. even better, the poll’s mechanics show that Barret is only leading in Dane County ( heavily Left Madison) and downtown Milwaukee. He isn’t even leading in the Milwaulee metro are or the suburbs. Meanwhile, Lieutenant Governor Rebecca Kleefisch … Read entire article »

Market and/or Government: Reducing Systemic Risk in Banking
If the five largest banks—JP Morgan, Bank of America, Citigroup, Goldman Sachs, and Morgan Stanley—are too big to fail and yet substandard operationally on account of their respective complexities (e.g., investment banking added to commercial banking), might it be that the market-based decisions of investors will relegate the giants, which by the way had price-to-book value ratios of between .37 to .77 in May 2012, thereby solving the problem of systemic risk? Smaller banks may be favored by investors because such banks do not “suffer a conglomerate discount,” according to the Wall Street Journal. “They also don’t have big investment-banking or trading arms.” These “arms” are relatively volatile and opaque businesses, and they may be more susceptible to the E.U. debt crisis due to the trades in derivatives. Finally, being less … Read entire article »

If money makes the world go ’round…Market observations!
Are these financials stock charts telling the classic tale of “where there’s smoke there’s fire”? Unless someone has been hiding under a rock, and even then, we are all well aware of what is going on inside the EU financial crisis and specifically, for at least the time being, the epicenter that is Greece. There is anecdotal evidence (or even worse, actual evidence) of a run on the Greek banks, new Greece elections occurring in June that may ultimately force Greece out of the EU and, if that happens, the potential for an accelerated run on banks along with a buyers strike on sovereign bonds in countries such as Spain, Italy and France to name just three. The hypothesis is that if Greece is out of the EU, what is to stop these other countries from … Read entire article »

Marvel’s “The Avengers”
Captain America (Photo credit: ewen and donabel) Directed by Joss Whedon Reviewed by Marion D.S. Dreyfus My quick takeaway: If the film industry were not so committed to apocalyptic CGI and what I term impact viewing, it’d stand out more — but the comic bits in the script leaven the rock ‘em/sock ‘em and are welcome. Heartening to see that the audience, full of tots as well as what seemed to be grand-parental types unaccompanied by kidlets, got the healthy dose of humorous asides throughout. A pleasure to see an audience so primed that they get why dropping the name Stephen Hawking into the lap of Chris Evans’ 1940s character Captain America would evoke a guffaw as he had zero idea what to make of such a reference. Pop comic-book superheroes “The Avengers” not … Read entire article »

Family Wins $323 Million Against Iran, Syria Over Terrorist Attack
Back in 2006, I wrote about Daniel Wultz, a sixteen-year-old American teenager who was murdered in a homicide bombing perpetrated jointly by Islamic Jihad and Fatah’s al-Aksa Martyr’s brigade while he was eating lunch at a felafel restaurant in Tel Aviv. Ten other people died in that attack, and others were severely wounded. Six years later, the Wultz family has finally won a judgment against jihadi sponsors Iran and Syria for $323 million. The ruling came because it was proven in court that Iran had financed the operation and Syria had allowed the murderers to train on its soil. News of the judge’s ruling was received by the Wultz family on May 14th, the sixth anniversary of Daniels death. Wultz Attorney Robert Tolchin told msnbc.com that with the court judgment in hand … Read entire article »
