Yesterday, Rush Limbaugh put his Limbaugh Letter online; previously this was mailed and only available to premium members. It included an excellent interview with Mia Love, GOP nominee for Utah 4th Congressional district. Only recently did Real Clear Politics move this contest from Likely/Leans Dem to Toss-Up. On Oct. 2nd Mia was polished in her final 4th debate with her opponent. If there is a “war on women,” the trashing of Mia Love and recently actress Stacey Dash, are clear evidence of it being the Left attacking black women supporting Mitt Romney vs the other way around. Below is an excerpt of the interview in the Limbaugh Letter. Please donate money for Mia Love to buy ads to refute the smears. Go to her website. Electing the first black conservative Republican is a very big deal.
Rush: Now your opponent, Jim Matheson, is relatively popular, right?
Love: Yes. He’s popular. His father was the governor of tthe state, and he really has a name for himself.
Rush: What’s your primary line of attack against this guy?
Love: He doesn’t put Utah first. He votes with the President 75 percent of the time. I am dealing with a 12-year member of Congress who voted for the stimulus, voted for cash-for-clunkers, voted for card check.
Rush: I want to run something by you that Matheson has said about you.
Love: Go ahead.
Rush: He said, “She wants to get rid of all federal student loans, pull the rug out from 75 percent of the kids going to school in Utah… She wants to make our communities more dangerous by taking away funding for all local law enforcement.” Now that’s absurd. How do you deal with this stuff in the heat of this campaign?
Love: We’re going to have to make sure we address the issues. Again, if you listen to what he’s saying, all of his options, all of his goals, along with President Obama, are to divvy out more money, more debt, more spending. That’s their solution. What I’m saying is that whenever federal government gets too involved with anything, bad things happen, costs go up, competition goes down, efficiencies and service levels get worse. Is it a surprise that since the 80s the cost of education has gone up over 500 percent? If you look at the school I went to, it’s doubled since I graduated. Tuition keeps going up because these institutions have no incentives to keep their costs down. I’d like to have a leader who says this is a problem. Why not work on bringing the cost of tuitiion down, so we can give people more opportunity for higher education, so when they leave school they’re not riddled in debt – with no guarantee of work, by the way.
Rush: If you listen to the liberal Democrats, they’ll go after Big Oil and its “obscene profits,” and they’ll go after Big Pharmaceutical and Big Retail and so forth, but they never, ever excoriate runaway tuition costs at universities and other institutions of higher learning like you just did. Oh, they might give lip service to tuitioin costs, but all they really talk about is making it easier to get a student loan.
Love: Right you have to understand it’s absolutely irresponsible for my opponent or for Barack Obama to encourage these students to incur more debt instead of leading, and saying we’re going to bring the cost of tuition down. This can apply to everything. The free market has taken more Americans out of poverty than any other economic system in the history of the world. Why aren’t we trusting the free market?
Rush: When you talk about the free market, given the state of education, how many people even know what you mean?
Love: This is what I say, especially to my opponent. “He is obviously out of touch because he’s never had to worry about student loans. His father’s always been able to pay them. When tuition goes up, who gets crowded out? The middle income families and lower income families who have no choice other than to be riddled in debt or not go to school at all.” That speaks volumes. I mentioned that by the time my daughter has a family, she’ll owe over $900,000. Add student loan to that, and before she even hits the workforce her portion of debt, between national debt and student loans, will be over a million dollars. Can you sense the impossibility?
Rush: There are never any cuts. $16 trillion national debt, where is any cut? It’s absurd. Of course, the tactic is used to scare people who aren’t working, who are retired, who survive only on what they get from the government. Democrats try to scare those people that any kind of tax cut will mean less money for them. It’s really hideous and is doing great damage to the country. That’s why I hope you smoke this guy.
Love: Oh I will. That’s why I need your help, Rush. I’ve got $2 million of liberal money coming in from outside Utah and attacking me. We have to make sure they do not buy this race. I’ve got to raise another $500,000 so we’ll be able to get the word out and make sure the people of Utah know he is a friend and supporter of Barack Obama. No one’s been able to do that before, because no one’s had money.
Rush: This is a traditionally Democrat district?
Love: It’s not. It’s an R-plus nine! But no one has had any money to go up against this person. The left has come in and helped him and has put out all these smear campaign ads that aren’t truthful, and no one’s been able to answer it. We’ve got to make sure that doesn’t happen this year. I’m asking all my friends to come in and help.
Rush: I want to ask you one more thing. You say that Washington’s broken. But a lot of conseervatives get elected. go there, and get broken themselves. Have you done any thinking as to how you might stay pure?
Love: Always. Yes, I do, Rush. I have to always make sure I’m in this for the right reason. I sent my daughter off to junior high just the other day and I told her, “Honey, I want you to know I love you. I’m proud of who you are.” She looked at me and said, “Mom, no, I’m proud of you.” She understands what I’m doing. That’s what keeps me connected. I look across the table – I’m fighting for those three children every single day. As long as I am representing the people in my district, we will be fine.
